A dynamic story that allows for personlised engagement and narrows the gap between the writer and the reader .

- Has a authored core story,
- Has a social narrative,
- Integrates and encourages audience participation.

Interactive storytelling is a medium where the narrative, and its evolution, can be influenced in real-time by a user.

"Pause and Effect"
(The art of interactive narrative)
by Mark Stephen Meadows.
- Interactive narrative includes imagery. Narration is not limited to text. Narratives are very common as we see them everywhere from newspapers, books, magazines, essays to posters. Narratives inform, educate and entertain.

- Interactivity is a continuing increase in participation. The most engaging interactive narrative consists of flow, as the more the user participates the more action is conducted which gives the audience a better experience.

- Interactivity is a process that dictates communication. It can also be seen as communication dictates a process however it provides option, change in pace and changes you as you change it.
This makes the role of the author more difficult and important as attention is needed to see what is being generated.

- "Minimizing damage and maximizing meaning".
In order for interactivity to take place a framework is needed to function smoothly, this can be done by creating a set of rules and guidelines. E.g. A modification was created for the user by the author because it was allowed.

- Interaction can be broken down into four steps:

1. Observation- The user makes an assessment,
(Identification of things e.g. buttons or levers).

2. Exploration- The user does something,
(The user finds what they can and can't do).

3. Modification- The user changes the system,
(The user bridges context to decision).

4. Reciprocal- The system tries to change the user,
(When a modification is made the user asses again and takes the user back to step 1, this increases the interaction).

What is a interactive narrative?
Interactive narrative generates a set of multiple perspectives.
Reading this book has helped understand the intersections of authorship and interaction. I have created some bullet points below to consider when designing my game prototype.
- The author of interactive narrative has to present all the forking paths by analysing information and offering perspective.
